On June 26, 2024, the Global Renewables Alliance and Bloomberg Philanthropies announced the first Global Renewables Summit, to be held during the 79th United Nations General Assembly. The summit will convene governments, civil society, and financiers to mobilise support for tripling renewable power capacity by 2030, building on the UAE Consensus and the urgent need to scale up renewable deployment.
The announcement explained that partners such as Barbados and Kenya, the European Commission, COP28 and COP29 presidencies, the International Energy Agency and the International Renewable Energy Agency will co-host the event. They aim to accelerate policy frameworks, unlock financing, streamline permitting, upgrade grids and strengthen supply chains, especially in emerging economies. This collaborative effort underscores the global commitment to rapidly expand renewables and achieve climate goals.
